Despite the cancellation of this year’s Windsor Waterfront Corvette Show, it didn’t put the brakes on the Corvette Club of Windsor making a donation to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation. Arriving in three corvettes at the Met Campus on Tuesday, September 29th, the club presented a cheque worth $5,000 which will be used to purchase equipment in Paediatric Oncology. Following the cheque presentation, another member donated an additional $1,000 to the cause. “We had people donate, the club donated, and the people who had registered for the car show this year that didn’t happen, we asked them if they would like to donate their money or get a refund and most of them donated the money,” explains past club president Bryan Hansen.
On average, 175 to 250 register their vehicles to be on display in Dieppe Gardens for the annual car show, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the club decided to cancel the show that was slated for June 14, 2020.
The $6,000 will be used to purchase syringe pumps for medication delivery. “We are very thankful for the corvette club donating the money to us today,” says Kelly Bartnik, program manager of Paediatric Services. “We have pumps that deliver fluid but when we are dealing with small volumes whether it be a teaspoon, half a teaspoon up to a little more volume, we need something a little more precise.”
Bartnik adds the unit does not have enough syringe pumps to cover all the children, so the pumps are shared between patients but with COVID-19, it has highlighted the need for more pumps to reduce infection risks.
